Russian-American soprano Maria Vasilevskaya
born in Novosibirsk, Siberia, praised for her “sweet and clear tone” (Palm Beach Daily News) and named as a “resilient performer” (City Paper) has spent 2024/2025 season with the Deutsche Oper Berlin ensemble as an Opera Foundation scholarship holder. Notable roles at DOB this season include First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Berta (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Tebaldo (Don Carlo), Annina (La Traviata), Dama di Lady Macbeth, Fourth Magd (Elektra) and others.
62nd Tenor Viñas Finalist and a winner of an Extraordinary Prize from OpernWerkstatt , Maria is a former Benenson Young Artist & Bailey Apprentice Artist at the Palm Beach Opera. Her highlight roles with the company include Clotilde (Norma), Rosina (The Barber of Seville), the First Witch (Dido and Aeneas), Hansel (Hansel und Gretel) and cover roles for the all Four Heroines in “Les Contes d'Hoffmann”, Adina/Gianetta (L’Elisir d'Amore), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Fiordiligi (Cosi fan Tutte).
Maria joined the Aspen Music Festival in the summers of 2023 and 2024, where she collaborated with Peter Sellars on Matthew Aucoin’s new work “Music for New Bodies”. She also performed Ortlinde in Wagner’s “Die Walküre” with Aspen Festival Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Robert Spano, and was a soprano soloist in Ginastera’s “Cantata para América Mágica” with AMFS Percussion Ensemble. As a part of Aspen Opera Theatre and Vocal Arts Program, she was featured as a Violetta Valéry and Countess in collaboration with the Aspen Conducting Academy.
Maria's concert repertoire includes Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”, Vivaldi's “Gloria”, Handel's “Messiah”, Mussorgsky's “Songs and Dances of Death”, Kurt Weill's “Die Sieben Todsünden”. She thoroughly enjoys collaborating in song repertoire.
The 2023 Laffont Competition Tennessee District winner, Maria was named a Friends of Eastman Opera and Concerto Competitions winner while at the Eastman School of Music, where she earned her master's degree. She also holds a bachelor's degree with honors from the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory.
